Photographies de: Slim Aarons, Eve Arnold, David Bailey, Cecil Beaton, Bill Brandt, Alvin Langdon Coburn, Anton Corbijn, Terence Donovan, Roger Fenton, Bert Hardy, Evelyn Hofer, Frank Horvat, Tony Ray-Jones, Nadav Kander, Roger Mayne, Linda McCartney, Don McCullin, Norman Parkinson, Martin Parr, Rankin, Lord Snowdon, William Henry Fox Talbot, Juergen Teller, Mario Testino, Wolfgang Tillmans et beaucoup, beaucoup d'autres. -

Long before GPS or Google Maps were invented, folded paper maps were our most trusted companions on the road. While traditional maps are becoming increasingly obsolete, there is more to cartography than establishing bearings or a sense of scale. Maps can also be a thing of beauty that appeals to our sense of nostalgia, evoking memories of trips taken - or planned and not yet realized. Illustrated maps hone the ability to bring a place to life through vivid renderings, leaving a unique impression influenced by the artist's own experiences. From iconic landmarks to hidden shortcuts, GET LOST! takes your eyes on a cartographic journey and allows readers to explore the lands within through the skill of the Illustrators included. Categorized by region, readers can experience different illustrators' interpretations of the same place through personal anecdotes and recommendations.

Modern New York: The Illustrated Story of Architecture in the Five Boroughs from 1920 to Today takes the reader on a roller-coaster ride through the changing fortunes of New York City throughout the last hundred years, from the heights of the Roaring Twenties and Mad Men Fifties, to the depths of the Great Depression Thirties, through to Fear City in the Seventies, and beyond. Many of the featured buildings won t be found in city guides and some of them are no longer around but each one played an integral part in the fascinating story of the five boroughs. The ten decades are explored through some 150 buildings in all corners of the city, from Rockefeller Center to the Pan Am Building to the Standard Hotel, as well as treasures lost, such as the 1927 Savoy-Plaza Hotel, and treasures rescued, such as the astonishingly glamourous 1924 American Radiator Building, now the Bryant Park Hotel. New York City has been described from every possible angle through thousands of books. But not many of them venture out of Manhattan, let alone visit all five boroughs. Out of these, only a handful is accessible to non-experts and fewer still are entertaining and illustrated. And none of them offer such a crisp and visually unified picture of the Big Apple.

A guide to the wonders of Venice, conveyed by means of an artist's sketchbook.
Matthew Rice is a long-time observer and illustrator of cities, buildings and all those who inhabit them, with an uncanny ability to express the energy of a place through a few lines of ink and splashes of paint. For years, Venice has been a source of deep creative inspiration for him; and now, in Venice: A Sketchbook Guide, he captures the highlights of this most beguiling of Italian cities.
Unsurprisingly, given his abiding passion for architecture, Matthew provides a wealth of information about the 'stones' of Venice, including an illustrated guide to the main building styles of the city - Byzantine, Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Modern - and exemplars of its balconies, bridges and campaniles. Further sections explore the city's sestieri - its six residential quarters - as well as its history, paintings, festivals, wildlife and, not least, its cicchetti and aperitivi.
Following the same landscape format as Matthew's real-life sketchbooks, Venice: A Sketchbook Guide will combine enchanting watercolour illustrations with an informed, personal and witty text, and promises to delight all visitors to Venice, armchair or actual. -

Japan's capital city for over 1000 years, Kyoto is the country's cultural and spiritual heart. Picturesque temples and prewar machiya - traditional townhouses - populate its historic districts, and are what most visitors expect to see. But one of Kyoto's many gifts is for finding new ways to use and preserve its ancient appearance while continuing to evolve.
In Kyoto introduces photographer Taro Moberly, who guides readers through the many faces of his adopted hometown. His images capture the mystery of the city's traditional architecture, bamboo gardens, and luscious sakura. He then turns his distinctive eye to Kyoto's more modern areas and street photography, layering them with the same atmospheric allure. Sprinkled throughout In Kyoto are traditional poems about the city, in both English and Japanese, to add another dimension of time to the images. -

The world is full of very little-known geographical anomalies that are or have often been a source of diplomatic and/or military struggles. Many still exist under the radar and are, or could become, the source of a major international crisis.
Countries that do not really exist, the world's only town that lies entirely underground, a UK hotel room that became Yugoslavian for one day only, an island which is Spanish for six months of the year and French for the other six months, a city which is officially constituted by one single skyscraper, the world's first and only railway that belonged to one country and ran across another, a hotel room whose bedroom is in France and whose bathroom is in Switzerland, Bir Tawil which is one of the very few territories on Earth not claimed by any country, the only place in the world where you can find the so-called counter-enclaves and where in a 20-minute walk around the village you can cross an international border over 50 times at 50 different points... -
